Compare a building model with its scan

Compare a building IFC with its matching colour point cloud to inspect façades, balconies and roof edges.

How it works

Try it

  1. Orbit around the building and inspect roof edges, balconies and end walls.
  2. Open Files (folder) on the left toolbar. Toggle the checkboxes beside the IFC and LAZ files to compare each source with their overlay.
  3. Open Sections (scissors) on the left toolbar → Add clipping plane, then click a surface to inspect the relationship between model and scan.

Source alignment

The pair is example-no-1.ifc and example-no-1.laz from the xeokit examples repository. The scan has 9,265,546 points, including surrounding ground and parked cars. Both files use shared local metre coordinates. The IFC bounds are approximately X 705.512–793.626 m, Y 84.995–109.509 m, Z 82.083–106.356 m, inside the scan bounds X 694.785–802.589 m, Y 78.559–114.389 m, Z 78.515–106.567 m. Rooflines, façades and balconies visually overlap without a translation, rotation or scale correction. This visual check does not certify survey accuracy or model deviations.

Developer integration

The page checks each source’s byte length and SHA-256 before passing the original Blob to viewer.add(name, blob). It loads the IFC first, then the LAZ, retaining successful imports when a later download needs a retry. The SDK handles parsing, point-cloud storage, visibility, sections and navigation. Neither file declares a projected CRS, so the example adds no geographic location or map conversion. The IFC is about 30 MB and the LAZ about 91 MB.

Copy this folder and serve it over HTTP. The published SDK and remote sample downloads require internet access.

Sources and licence notices

Both files are downloaded directly from the official xeokit/examples GitHub repository, pinned to revision eedeb4dca756d56c7703b312daff22fa31643fef: example-no-1.ifc and example-no-1.laz. The repository’s model and point-cloud alignment example uses the same pair.
